Is it time to eliminate certain federal agencies?
Certain federal agencies have never successfully served their intended purpose so, it is time to reduce the size of government by eliminating these agencies. Examples would be the Dept of Ed and Dept of Energy. Dept of Ed was set up to improve the quality of education in the US but, instead we saw a decline. The Dept of Energy was set up to reduce reliance of foreign oil but, it increased.
pros/cons?
@ Death Bane: The reason would be, in part, savings. These two are small agencies but, it would still cut nearly 100 Billion from the budget. You know hoe it goes... a billion here, a billion and there and pretty soon you are talking real money.
I agree with you 100% about reorganization. The government is incredibly inefficient and growing more so. I would like to see performance standards closer to the private sector.
I dont know about retasking DEA to ignore certain laws, might be better to change them by legalizing and taxing the heck out of marijuana.
@ Michael D. You are right. The founders would be horrified to see what the central government has become. In many ways, Lincoln and the civil war are to blame for the expansion but, that doesnt mean we cant take small steps to rein things in.
Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master - George Washington
