The blasphemy! What a Sell-out, what a loser! From Ozzy's main man to leader of the Black Label Society to glorified karaoke night?
How can anyone ever listen to anything he did again?
MQ- Or more seriously..... hmmm... Zakk Wyld. Last week Iggy Pop. Is it possible that for all the mainstream Appeal, that with the addition of Steven Tyler, that American Idol is actually attempting to gain a measure of credibility instead of catering ONLY to the top 40 crowd?
MQ2- Opinion on the rendition of Sammy Hagar's "Heavy Metal" (Vocally and guitarwise?)
BQ- Did you ever think you would hear Judas Priest and Sammy Hagar songs being sung, and sung well on a show like American Idol? "You Got Another Thing Comin" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQ6a0RALpEI
BQ2- Have I forsaken my Metal Street Cred for making it a point to actually root for a young man with Autism, who has the cojones to sing Heavy Metal songs on America's Pop show?

**So far the narrow nature of these answers is giving me a chuckle, and I don't even like AI...lol..

Hey now. I thought it was a good thing to happen on AI. Was a bit strange (at first)? Yes, but I love the fact that metal was finally getting some say on tv (not just that show). I'm also in agreement w/Jimmy Jazz as far as that being the best song on that show last night. JLo couldn't handle Iggy, but she was rockin w/Zakk.
I'm tired of today's music in most genre's being designed for only the young & pre-teens. I give Zakk kudos for getting out there and I'll bet his music sales w/go up after last night. He might of picked up a few more fans because of his appearance. What's wrong that exposure and making money for doing what you do anyways? Just because it's tv, doesn't mean he's "selling out". That term is misguided most times (imo).
*edit: Hey, Killer. Here's a write up on last night's show. Even this broad like it! http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/realityrocks/422473/american-idol-top-8-movie-night-box-office-bombs/
No. As much as it disappointed me to see Zakk on a show that stands for everything that is soul-less and wrong in the music industry, at the end of the day I'm not a BLS fan because I want Zakk to be president or my best friend. I'm a fan because I enjoy the music he makes, and I'll always enjoy it, so that's all that matters. It's the same when all my favorite artists start talking about politics, I just turn up their music.
MQ: It's possible that American Idol is trying to reach a new audience, because I can assure you that 99% of their viewers don't have the slightest clue who Zakk Wylde or Iggy Pop is. I think they're playing every card they can because the show is a sinking ship.
MQ2: I thought that lesbian did a pretty good job of singing, but I'm really burnt out on all these singers that sound like 4-year-old boys, even if they do have good pipes. What happened to singers with deep, manly voices like Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, or even James Hetfield. As far as the guitar work, it was really really good of course, but it sounded pre-recorded, which wouldn't surprise me one bit if it was.
BQ: Yes, actually my mom watches that stupid show and even on some of the earlier seasons there were contestants who would bust out some hard rock songs. The rockers never win though.
BQ2: I don't think there's anything wrong with rooting for a guy with autism. I mean Judas Priest had a gay singer, and if metal heads can get past that, they should get past anything. LOL
ma: no, queen and all the other guys i've heard about being on american idol hasn't changed anything. steven idol is just cashing in as part of his retirement plan, having him part of anything doesn't lend credibility to anything. of course, that varies with just who is supposed to be giving the credibility.
ma2: the song stunk when sammy did it, american idol or zakk wylde can't change that.
ba: sure, why not? it's not like judas priest or sammy are above playing or having their songs sung anywhere by anybody.
ba2: no, our daughter is autistic and sings neil young all the time, i don't think she's forsaken liz phair for neil.
MA: In a pathetically pandering, totally transparent way, yes. Wouldn't shock me to see Lars on there next.
MA2: It should first be said that A: That's my favorite Sammy song EVER, and B: One of the select few songs that made me love Metal when I was but a wee Sith disciple, and yeah it's cool to see Classic Metal get some love. Still the JP version was better.
BA: It's nice on one hand, disconcerting on the other....but the kid ROCKS!
I saw that last night and immediately knew you would ask a question about it. I thought it was solid version, definitely the best song done last night. Even Jenny from the block was getting into it.
