Why is it that many atheists on this board answer questions that weren't asked?

Just a little thought.

Perhaps I should reformulate my question with a bit more detail:

Why is it that whenever atheists are accused, the most common response is "Christians do it too"?

"Care to give an example?"

(Notice the thumbs down of my answer among the others, near the bottom, too.)

"The mark of a skilled answerer is that you can look at the question that was asked, figure out what the person needs to know, and then give them a useful answer. You are asking why atheists are competent rather than incompetent."

No, I am asking why *some* atheists are both incompetent and NEED to express it as such to the rest of the world.

The only flaw in your reasoning is that many of these are not meant to provide answers, but just to mock someone's religion as a form of (I presume) some kind of entertainment or self-gratification.

The mark of a skilled answerer is that you can look at the question that was asked, figure out what the person needs to know, and then give them a useful answer. You are asking why atheists are competent rather than incompetent. There's an old consultant's saying: "If you really hate a client, give him what he asks for instead of what he needs." It's very, very true.

I don't completely understand your question.

Accused of what? What are we accused of and when did anyone say 'christians do it too'?
Care to give an example?

It's not that common actually. The problem is that many people on here don't know how to properly frame a question such that it communicates the particulars of their curiousity.
