The devil does not appear in written history except as a part of religious ideology.
The bible does not count as history because it is not substantiated by other accounts from that era.

Job is the Earliest writings that appears to share how that Satan went before God..and Asked to be able to Test Job...So if Job is the Earliest writings. Then the Book of "JOB"
If you read in the Bible , Isaiah 14:12-- and Ezekiel 28:12-18 Talks of Lucifier His Angelic Name. for Satan.. King of Tyre could not have been in the Garden of Eden..So it has a dual meaning.
Jewish Writing always holds a Dual meaning in it..It can go two different ways. at the same time.

There is no "devil" in Scandinavian history until around 964 CE. It's going to vary by region as Christianity spread as most - if not all - of the older faiths reject dualism and therefore have no "devil" type entity that is purely evil.
