I'm looking into buying a truck, well my mom is. Anyways what is the smallest you truck you could have and pull a decent size trailer and two horses. The trailers would either be a three horse or two horse depending on what is available. Both horses are less then 16hh and around 1500llbs each if that. So with your experience what would you recommend, I know diesels would be the best but that won't be happening. Thanks:D

A two-horse trailer can be done with a 1/2 pickup like a Chevy Silverado 1500 or Ford F-150. But for bigger trailers and some large 2 horse trailers, a 3/4 or 1 ton truck like a Ford F-250 or Dodge 3500 would be much better options.
The 3/4 and 1 ton trucks are built with towing in mind. They have stronger transmissions and tougher suspensions and really are the best option for regular towing of mid to large size recreational trailers. Those larger trucks are available with gasoline motors, but they are not as fuel efficient as their diesel counterparts.
Towing a trailer of this size should not be done by mid-size trucks like a Chevy Colorado, Ford Ranger or Dodge Dakota. You will need at least a 1/2 ton, probably better off with a 3/4 ton.
Gotta get a 3/4 or one ton, Dual wheels would be best for control. Getting it moving is not the big point, controlling and stopping it are the big concerns.
