R&S: Why aren't churches taxed in the us?

They're a business just like any other. They make a lot of money off of it too.

I know a pastor who makes 100k at a church with roughly 200 members. Works 3 days a week max if he visits a retirement community or attends a funeral (unlikely with the amount of members)

Anyways. I see a lot of churches giving money to advance their political agendas etc.

So why are they different than any other business?
Would taxing churches incentivize them to donate to charities (in lieu of giving to the gov)?

Haha I hardly see any money coming out of most churches to help the needy. And if the money was going to help the needy why funnel it through the church? Pretty sure churches are profitable with all the fancy garbs and nice salaries.

Also second amendment right to bears arms? What?

If they are, then they are taxed as such. Churches that met the criteria for charities are not.

No non profit charitable organization is taxed in the US, not just churches. The pastor who makes 100K has to pay income taxes on that, just like the rest of us. In order to stay tax exempt, the churches have to not tell their members who to vote for. I think the churches should voluntarily give up their tax exempt status. They are being bribed to shut up about political issues and they are accepting the bribe!

Yes, you are right, many of the churches don't obey the rules and get away with it for a reason I can only guess at.

Even as an atheist I am for churches not being taxed. I see where your coming from, and there is plenty wrong with the churches in America, but people pay the churches based on their own free will, not sticker prices. People (for some reason) seem to need a place to express their faith. Power to them.

Wow!
Junior is right. My mother works for a church and has for years. The church is only partially tax-exempt, not completely, and all the people that work there have to pay all the same income taxes as everyone else (including social security!) Working for a not-for-profit does not entitle the employees to a tax-free income.

i'm sorry. i did no longer study all of what you suggested. No, I won't hate you through fact I trust you (and that i don't be attentive to you.) purely Muslims who're financially able to taking a Hajj ought to pass. purely based on the state to get what you go with is insanity. the money it is used to pay for such meaningless issues ought to be spent on removing poverty. Why is there lots appeasement occurring in India? There are extra existence like assistance on the thank you to income the Muslim community's have confidence- like no longer alienating them from society.
