How do you link your Youtube and Google accounts?

Question

I had to reboot from disc and now I've got new problems, YouTube and Google seem to be in bed together these days and they want me to link my two accounts somehow.
 I can't open my old YouTube account without linking it to my Google account and when I try to link the two it says this Google account already taken.
 WTF - I know it's taken - it belongs to me.
 What am I missing?
 What hoops am I not jumping through?
 I'm using Opera if that makes a difference.

Its a little complicated to link them. You most likely have two google accounts it seems. Therefore sign into one of your accounts (through regular google) and go to the top corner where it says my account or account settings (im not sure which one). Activate the switch that says you can sign onto more than one account at a time. Then it'll ask you to sign into your other account. once doing so you can switch between them and your older Youtube account should be back to normal.
If that doesn't help then you can sign out of your google account and just sign into your youtube account. Then merge all your stuff onto your account.
