Dog possibly ate broken glasses-help?

My dog -medium size husky - found a glass jar with dry food, jumped on teh shelf, broke the jar and ate the food. I believe he must have eaten some pieces of broken glass amidst the dry food. The vet said they can do nothing but watch him, and told me to give him small pieces of cotton to eatso that they can surround the glass in his intestine.
Anyone had a similar experience? What should i expect?

They made it pretty clear that a. you can't always see glass in Xrays or ultrasounds, b. even if they see it in teh Xray tehy won't cut him open to try finding the glasses, which will have moved until then, but they will wait for it to pass and only if it doesn't pass they will do surgery. Believe me, my vet would not refuse testing to save me money, quite the opposite. The question is has it happened to someone?
And I agree that bones are different, sure they are dangerous, but tehy are the kind of thing a dog would also eat in nature. Even chicken bones, I know dogs who kill chickens and eat them. It could kill him, but if every dog who ate a bone died they would be extinct now.

my dog did something similar, pulled a glass pie plate off the counter which smashed, he ate the entire cheesecake and lots of glass shards ... the kitchen was splattered with blood from the cuts in his mouth ... emergency vet visit later (and ditto on not x-raying) the vet told me to add a bit of bran to the dogs diet to bulk up his stools a bit and feed just a bit extra for a few days to help it pass ... which it did with no problem and the dog did not even have any digestive upset ... amazing what they can pass :O)

I am sure that he did eat some of the shards of glass in which case you need to him to a vet ASAP.

There telling you they could only watch im is a crock .. They could do x-rays to see if he ingested any foreign objects,,,such as glass

The shards of glass can cut along the esophagus, stomach, and intestines and cause internal bleeding

I wouldn't chance waiting one more minute if it were one of my dogs, I would already have been in my ar to the vet

@ Cayla ... Chicken bones are very different from shards of glass ... however just for the record both can cause injuries and death
