Android G2... power button is toast...?

I love tinkering with electronics so I'd like to see if I can fix it.

Long story short.. had gatorade on table. G2 was in the chair. My evil cat knocked over the gatorade and it hit the G2. I was quick enough to take the battery out and ricebag the phone. Days later it was just fine. However, it wouldn't power up by normal means. It only power up if i remove the battery and plug it back in. So I'm trying to keep it on by keeping it charged.

Only thing acting weird is the power button. Nothing else appears to have taken damage.

At first I figured "Sticky button?" but since it quite literally isn't responding I can only assume the damage was done when it hit the phone.

Is there a way to take the phone apart, fix it? I'm sure there are some electronic fanatics on here who love modding and fixing electronics so i figured I'd give it a try and see if anyone has some ideas.

If it can be fixed, no reason for me to go spend more money on another. I do have solder, the correct soldering iron and tools for small electronics. But how the heck do you take these stupid things apart?

i'm dealing with the same thing. pretty frustrated since i just got the phone a few months ago.

does yours cycle through the power menu while it's turned on, or is this button just unresponsive? ie., if you're sitting there at the menu, does it randomly bring up the "power off, airplane mode, silent mode" screen that usually opens when you hold down the power button?

if your phone is rooted already, you can go into the system settings and edit which button the power function is mapped to. for instance, changing the camera button to be the power button. if your phone isn't rooted yet though that won't work because you need the power button in order to access the boot menu to install the root...
