I bought a new LCD TV (LG 42LK550) and it makes every movie look like a soap opera. So real it takes away from my an enjoyable movie-viewing experience. Is there any way to change those settings, and if so, how?

The soap opera effect is likley caused by having a TV with 120 or 240 hz.
One sure fire to turn that off, is too use "game mode".

On your 'Menu' there should be picture settings.. There is usually a 'Movie' mode. OR, if you have an LCD with a refresh rate of 120 or 240 hz., you should turn that off while watching movies. There is a conflict when watching TV movies with refresh rates on... (Movies shot at 24 FPS, then Broadcast at 30 FPS, on and on..) I won't get into the boring details, but that should fix it..
