Is $250 too high for a puppy adoption fee?

i am interested in adopting a staffordshire terrier from a rescue organization. i was told the fee for the 4 month old puppy is $250 and does not include the spaying/neutering of the animal. the organization has included free training classes which i am not interested in. is this too much money or is it a reasonable cost?

Do they provide a gift certificate to a vet for an exam or towards their spay/neuter?

If so, its a fair deal... Also, take advantage of the puppy classes. Number one reason for people surrendering animals is poor training. Number two reason involves health, like a cat with a UTI who goes outside the litterbox... which can be fixed with $10 worth of antibiotics if owners would bother to take it to a vet.

I don't think it sounds too high at all. When I was looking to get a new dog, I checked out both Golden Retriever rescue and Labrador Retriever rescue organizations. The Golden Retriever group wanted $350 for a dog. The Lab rescue group wanted $250 for an adult dog or $350 for a puppy. I ended up adopting a Golden Retriever from the county dog pound and even that cost $150.

that is way too much! i live in an area where there are tons of rescues and shelters. $250 is very expensive for a puppy especially when it does not include the spaying/neuter.

puppies are usually more than adult dogs, but only because some of the adoption fee is suppose to go towards the spay/neuter.

i would definitely find another rescue and adop a pet from there.

Puppy: $250-$500 + cost of spay or neuter
Small Breed: $250-$400 + cost of spay or neuter
Medium to Large Breed: $125-$400 + cost of spay or neuter
Dog prices may increase if already altered

Our local SPCa prices.

It is kinds high but, not bad. It should include the spay/neuter fee though and I would definitely take the training classes since it is offered and it's a rugged dog and close to a Pit Bull (Pit is American Straffordshire Terrier) training is just a smart idea unless you are a dog trainer yourself.
