What do you think of my trying to start a help fund to aid pet owners who can't afford to take their beloved p?

I'm definitely not rich but I can get my babies vet treatment. I was in getting them their flea/tick meds and rabies shots when a man came out in tears. He had the most lovely Boxer girl I've ever seen. He said she was the smartest dog he'd ever seen. But she had heart worms. This vet wouldn't treat her because he couldn't pay the entire $200.00 for the meds. Another lady was weeping too. She didn't have the money to save her puppy. She said all she could do was put the 3 month old puppy to sleep because she didn't want him to suffer.
I live in a town who's vets are only there to make money. There are 4 vets in town and none of them will allow payments on their work. This suckie town doesn't have one vet who actually has a heart for animals and their owners. So, I was thinking about using my artwork and baking tallent to sell and build a fund to help them. I do have a tender heart. Is there others who have tender hearts too?

Working in the vet business, I can understand the business aspect of it, but refusing to even treat a heartworm positive dog because the owner can't afford it is just bad business. My biggest problem in the vet world is working with doctors who are money hungry and the pet isn't their first priority. The pet should always be the first priority. I think that is a great idea to sell your artwork. That's very generous of you and we need more people like you in the world.

I'd say 90% of pet owners have a tender heart. But you're not going to save the world. I feel bad for people that can't afford the meds, but come on...$200?? That dude had no business getting a pet if he couldn't afford that measly amount. Two dogs ago, I was spending almost $500/mo for a year on an older dog dying of heart disease. Part of being a good owner is knowing what is involved.

Do whatever you can but in the end there will always be needy, irresponsible people. It's sad the animals pay the price but that's just life. Millions of dogs are put to sleep every year.

I think that's an amazing idea, funding it is another story. Artwork, no matter how good, can only get you so far. Try setting up a webpage or something to get others in your community to help, too. This is an area where volunteers would probably swarm in.

i think its a great idea but you should think about having a fundraiser and give it to the people who need it the most for their dogs. the vets in your area could give free services for the major shots and routine checkups for a day or so.
