My parents won't let me get another snake?

I currently have a Carpet Python and I want to start keeping Amazon Tree Boas. I'm looking to get a baby since I have an empty 10 gallon tank I can use for it. My dad's only response when I ask him if I can get one is "That I won't be able to take care of both of them". I've taken care of a baby box turtle, a kingsnake, and a lizard at the same time and it was a piece of cake. The turtle and lizard were both WC so I let them go after a while and I sold the Kingsnake to get my Carpet Python.

How can I convince my dad that I can keep both snakes at the same time? I want to get some more experience because in a couple of years, I want to start breeding and selling baby snakes.

Ftfisher, I have had experience with ATBs before and know their care and needs. I have asked lots of people if a 10 gallon would be ok for a baby and they say its fine, and I also have plenty of room for an adult Carpet Python and an ATB.

well since they eat the same things and the care procedures are basically the same it would be easy to get them on the same schedule.start with that and if it's a money issue offer extra chores to cover it.

A 10 gallon fish tank is totally inappropriate for an Amazon Tree Boa. These snakes are also snakes for the advanced handler / keeper. They are very fragile as babies, require exacting temperature and humidity and have larger teeth, even as babies and they will use them, often without provocation.

To keep the heat and humidity requirements, you need a melamine or PVC arboreal style cage. A radiant heat panel is arguably the best heating choice. These are tree-dwelling snakes, as the name implies and the bask in the trees in the sunlight, not by pressing themselves to a warm surface. They need no supplemental lighting, which will only dry out the enclosure.

Also, if your ultimate goal is breeding, make sure any future breeding stock comes from a reputable breeder that can provide genetic and lineage information. Go for quality, not quantity.

Also, you have to keep in mind how large your Carpet will grow. When it reaches the 8 foot range and needs a large enclosure, will you have space for that. You'll need a 4X2 or a 6X2, not some fish tank for your Carpet.

Well, like all good parents, yours will expect you to prove you can handle both of them. Perhaps he just isn't comfortable with having another snake. Please respect your father's decisions.

Also, if you are pretty young, you need a breeders license to breed snakes and sell offspring.
