Do you have to give 30 day notice to move out if your lease is already expired?

I live in an apartment, my lease expired last October. After living here for almost 2 years I find the building has become unlivable. There are roaches and the faulty wiring has destroyed 2 deluxe fax machines needed for my schooling. When it rains my bedroom carpet floods and recently it has molded my mattress. The landlord has sprayed for the bugs and so have I but they wont go away, and recently when my fiance tried to tell him about the leaking foundation he yelled at him and told him to vacate the premises for bug spraying. As he was waiting outside for a ride he was yelled at again and was told not to come inside. Whenever I try to call him about issues he is rude and short with me on the phone.
With my lease being expired and these conditions I want to move right away, I don't care about the deposit. Do I still need 30 days notice to move out?

When your lease expired you rolled into a month to month rental,,Just as your landlord is required to give 30 days notice to end that relationship you are required to do the same...I respect the fact you are living in poor conditions but be careful...This sounds like the type of guy that might try to sue you for a months rent on top of damages....Take many pictures of everything when you leave and make sure any agreements to leaving earlier or a 30 day notice are backed in writing...Check your lease as there may be a clause that explains this...Why would you want to let this guy grab your deposit after the nonsense he put you through ? Do things right and get your hard earned money back...

30 Day Notice To Move

Wrong answer = Yes you must by law give 30 day WRITTEN notice sent certified mail, This is completely false. Unless this person who posted this answer knows the laws in all the states then it is a complete fabrication.
I left my apartment last year after my lease expired. Nothing they could do other then cry into their little greedy hands.

Generally, yes. It depends on state tenant-landlord laws but 30 days is common. Once your lease expires, you revert to a month-to-month tenancy. If things are as bad as you claim, why have you remained there since October?

Read your lease to see if it converts to a month to month agreement after it expires or if it automatically renews.

If you are on a mtm agreement, you have to give 30 days notice that you are moving. If you don't, you will forfeit your deposit and possibly be sued for the last month rent that you still owe.
