Jousting,Quintain, renaissance stuff?

Well my husband has decided to take up jousting and it has proved to be very entertaining. Has anyone ever done this or watched it at Renaissance faires? I'm interested in your advice or stories.

Jousting is a very dangerous pastime for both horse and rider. It takes exceptional skill and a brave soul to try it. What is seen at most Renaissance Fairs isn't actual "full tilt" jousting, it's finely orchestrated and choreographed acting on the part of the reenactment actors. Note the lack of proper barding (horse armor)? The barding is cloth or there is none at all. A real jouster will protect his horse with a minimum of chain mail or heavy leather over the cloth barding in strategic places like the chest and they make sure to protect the horse's face and eyes.

If your husband decides to make jousting a regular past time please advice him to spend his money well and buy good personal armor and barding for his horse from an approved arms smith who has experience making specialty armor and barding. It can be the difference of life and death in full tilt. There's no price on that.

Watch here to see some real jousting. It's amazing and guttural.

I haven't yet but I'm dying to...
Ren faires are kind of an unusual thing here though...:( If you do anything with horses that doesn't have to do with rodeo or ranching, you're considered mental...*sigh* Lol.
