why can't I open the trunk of my car?

I pulled the latch inside my car and the trunk will not open and if it does, it will not close. I can use the key and it is fine. but this also is the same problem for the gas latch. What is wrong with this?

I have 2002 Honda Civic

can I fix this or do I need to take it in? Will it cost lots of money? just to find out the problem they want 53 dollars. :(

Open the boot with the key and tell somebody to pull the latch inside the car while you watch the boot lock.
If the lock is not moving when the latch is pulled there is a problem with the cable somewhere between the latch and the lock.
If the lock moves there has to be some problem with the lock. Probably bent. It happens after accidents.
