I need to get to alaska from madison wi, preferably a coastal town. Greyhound and amtrak dont have stations in alaska. i cant drive cuz thats just too damn expensive. and idk about hitchhiking. any suggestions?

Kind of depends on just where you want to go in Alaska and just where you are in Wisconsin. It's a long way from the "bottom" of Alaska to the "top".
If Juneau would suit you, considering you won't have a car, the easiest way by land would probably be to get to Bellingham, Wa. (bus or train should work for that) and take the ferry. This will also work for Anchorage or most other coastal towns up to there.
Trickier way, but shorter, is to go into Canada on I-29. It becomes the Trans-Canada Hwy. and later the Alaska Hwy. This is not a bad route to Juneau (must take the ferry from Skagway) or Anchorage - especially in the summer. I believe that between buses and rail you could make it without hitchiking. There will be connections between Greyhound and other bus lines and rail connections, Canadian Rail can get you to Prince Rupert (just below Alaska in British Columbia) also - back to the ferry from there. I'd start with a call to Greyhound or Canada National rail which does go into Minnesota, not sure of Wisconsin (you might should call both). Greyhound can get you to White Horse and there is an Alaskan bus line that goes to Anchorage from there - Greyhound should take care of making the connections. Rail would be much more comfortable and presumably faster. Do not know price differences.
The "best" way would be to fly to Juneau or Anchorage - but I'm remembering you said by land. Just that you're talking about around 3,000 miles from Minneapolis (I don't know where you are in Wisconsin so used Minneapolis as start point - you add the rest) to Juneau and about 3,500 to Anchorage.
Not easy "by land" but it can be done - good luck - my personal travel goal is to get to Denali - by land.

Well, our train system is quite limited and only goes between certain points here in our lovely state. The bus system is even smaller and long-distance buses only run from town to town in summertime. We don't have many roads here. NEVER hitchhike! Look into flying standby programs. You could take the train/bus to Seattle and then take the ferry to Alaska. Welcome to our lovely state!
