I need a cheap cell phone with no monthly contract?

My income is low and I just need a cell for occasional use. I know about assurancewireless, but you have to pay $20 a month just to be able to text (and there's no web access). Is tracphone the best? I don't mind paying a small price for the phone, but I don't want monthly bills (contracts) for the cell. All I need is voice and text, and web access would be a great bonus. Any opinions on http://www.tracfone-orders.com/bpdirect/tracfone/PhoneDetails.do?action=view&productVariantExtensionId=7808637 ?Thanks for your help!

Tracfone is good, but depending on how much you'd use your phone PagePlus can be the lowest priced option. You can bring your own device, within limits - ideally a postpaid Verizon phone - and you only have to pay $10 every 120 days to keep the phone active & you get 100 minutes, which works out to $30 a year

I have tracfone and love it, the web isnt like the best but its certainly not bad either, well worth the price, phones are cheap and the minute cards (airtime units) arent bad at all, I like how they do the texting, nice choice of prepaid cards, I think its a win for occasional use, i dont use mine like a 10 year old girl so it works out very well for a person like me who doesnt want noir need a monthly bill, i bought an airtime card for 40bucks and it good for 3 month, how can you beat that! minutes roll over if you dont use them all with active service and tracfone usually has some decent promo codes/double minutes, etc, well worth my investment i think

I've had T-Mobile prepaid (on a Motorola V195 phone) for over 3 years.
It costs 18c per minute.
Some months ago, I figured out that, on average, I've been paying
about $10 to $11 per month (I don't use the thing very much).

boost mobile is 50 dollars a month for unlimited talk, text, and walkie talkie... otherwise if you wanted a phone with data its the same unlimited everything but 10 dollars more for unlimited data. unfortunatly you have to buy the phone but you can get one for as little as 40 dollars or so.
