So everything said above. We have had him for a couple of years now, so could he just be dying? Or sick?
Any ideas?
He is not curled up like he is asleep, it is more like a frozen full body twitch

Where is the cage placed? You know, if the room gets too cold or drafty, hamsters DO go into hibernation. I would recommend that you put the cage in a warmer room, and see what happens. If the hamster remains the same, however, there is a great chance that it may be sick, so pay close attention! Hope I helped ya! ;)

If he's breathing heavily, he is sick. When they're sick, they do not have much longer to live. Hamsters are warm all the time, so that's not something you should be concerned about. If he begins to get cold, hold him close to your body, hoping some of your body heat will rub off on him.
The important thing is, that he drinks. If he isn't drinking, take a small syringe and fill it with water. Gently prod it into his mouth, and slowly squirt the water in.
If you're extremely concerned, take him to the vet, although the vet probably won't be able to do anything, and you'll just stress your hamster out. This could possibly be wet tail. That is a fatal disease to hamsters. If his behind is red and swollen, he's extremely tired, not eating or drinking, and has diarrhea, then it's wet tail. Mites are also a very harmful parasite to hamsters that cause death. Check his fur for little black dots, and see if he's scratching a lot.

Is he hot or warm? I don't think they have a very long life expectancy. I really don't know of much you could do for the little guy. U can call your local vet and ask.

Maybe he is asleep. I had a hampster who slept all day and ran all night.

sleep...i had a squirrel and it did that alot...i thought it was dead but sometimes rodents tend to go into a deep sleep
