Party Favor Question?

I know this isn't a wedding question (although it does pertain to my hubby), but you folks here are nicer than other areas so I wanted to ask here.
I am planning his 40th Birthday party and noted that it is casual BBQ/Picnic to celebrate. I am renting a pavillion in a local park. We will have burgers, dogs, salads, fruit/veggies, chips/dips, and cake.

I am wondering if I am supposed to have party favors? Are they expected for a "big" birthday party such as this, or not?
Thanks so much for reading my question & giving me some input!!

Seamstress ... all the "fixins" are covered, I was just summarizing within my question, but I've got TONS of fixins on the list to prepare the day before and anything that is canned (ketchup, mustard, relish, etc) is already bought & ready to go (the party is at the end of july)

Halo ... since it is outdoors, I didn't want to go crazy with decorations that could blow away so I bought mints that have "40" or old age sayings on them and was going to sprinkle them around the tables for decor that won't blow away.

Never seen an adult birthday party with favors. I wouldn't worry about it. Let people take home leftovers. They'll be more than happy. :)

Nah, I would not bother. I have been to 40th, 50th, 60th and 80th and 90th birthday parties and never received a favor nor did I expect to receive one.

I just had a memorial day picnic bbq and had a hot dog and hamburger bar with every single fixing anyone could want for their dogs and burgers. Everyone loved it and built their own burgers and dogs. So, think about adding all the extras like relishes, different mustards, swiss cheese, red onions, chopped white onions, banana peppers, roasted red peppers, mushrooms, bacon, Cheddar cheese, horseradish sauce, pickles, sauerkraut, chili dogs, and all that kind of great stuff!

The only favors I have ever received at a birthday party where when I was like, five.

As long as your guests leave well fed and had a good time, they will be fine.

I wouldn't be expecting them if I were a guest, I think the food would be enough!

However, favors are fun. Maybe something outside-related, like water with custom printed labels, or mini sunscreen bottles?
