Is this the right dog for me?

I want to get a shih tzu because they don't shed a lot and because my mom wants me to get a small dog. I have a medium sized condo. I plan on getting her as a puppy in the summer so I can spend a lot of time with her so she can get used to her surroundings. Is this the right do for me?

i have a shih tzu, a female, and i just love her so much. she was just a fantastic puppy. i also have a yorkshire terrier, and also a baby shorkie tzu from the both mating!

shih tzu's have some down falls though, when they are younger, they like to eat their poop, it's pretty gross! you'll have to train your puppy not to do that so it'll learn quick. also they need to be bathed once a week at least because they smell really easily, not they're whole body, just their face because their tears from their eyes drip and smells up the face area. they are super lovable and just so cute!

but if you're looking for a small dog ' like ' a shih tzu then the yorkshire terrier is just the absolute perfect puppy for you! very easy to train, and stays clean for up to 3 weeks maybe more! they're fur is really soft and doesn't tangle up easy. & they stay really tiny. i have a male yorkshire terrier, he is now 8 years old and still acts like a playful puppy! love him<3

good luck & enjoy your beautiful new puppy.

Shih Tzu's have longer hair, they WILL shed. Unless you keep them well groomed, which includes getting their hair trimmed quite often.

I would reccomend a boston terrier. I have one & i absolutely LOVE him. They are known to be hyper at times, but pretty laid back at others. For example, if you have a ball or some other toy, my dog is ready to go. If you just want to lay around watching TV, he's good with that, too!

They are also known to be "human-like" lol. This I have found is very true, too. They get very attached to you & strive to please. They're also smart. I have heard that females are more hyper than males, though.

Sure. They are pretty good breeds, but get the dog that YOU want, not what your mom wants.
