Black splotches/circles on my new granite countertops. Can anyone please help?
I recently had white kashmir grantite countertops installed in my kitchen. When I first saw the granite slab at my house for the first time, it looked just like what I picked at the store. However, after the job was complete, there are huge almost black circles/splotches everywhere on the granite.
Is it more likely that my contractor did a horrible job with the sealant or that I got a bad piece of granite? I have to go with the former b/c I swear it looked fine initially!! Please give me your thoughts and experiences. I really need a real opinion.

The splotches are probably just from water. Granite is porous, and it requires several applications of a permeating sealer. I used one called "impregnator" http://www.miraclesealants.com/s_511_impregnator.html which has a reputation as being the best. It does not change the look of the granite.
Keep water off of the granite for a few days and the spots and rings should dry out. You will not see them at all once it is fully dry. Then apply the sealer as directed on the bottle. Whenever you see water spots, it is time to reapply the sealer.
This is completely normal. There is nothing wrong with your granite. This is the "maintenance" that people talk about, and some folks choose Silestone so that they don't have to do this. It isn't difficult.
You should also know that properly sealed granite does not require any special cleaners or polishes. Do not put citrus fruit juice on granite, do not clean with ammonia based (window cleaner) products.
Black will coach every little bit of dirt you probably did no longer even comprehend you had! I also have a black tiled kitchen island and that i will dirt it and 5 minutes later it appears like i did no longer touch it in any respect. i'm putting a table fabric on it. i'd perhaps choose for something with gray in it and mild-weight cabinets.
