Has a bio father ever had to pay continued child support after a mother places the child for adoption?

Just wondering if there's ever been a case where a bio father was ordered to pay child support after a child was placed for adoption, even if it's within family. i.e. woman's single sister adopts child. We're assuming bio dad has lost rights, even if it's through putative father registry.

I was recently asked by my son's bio dad if I had rights to do this. I absolutely never would, but just curious. (I adopted from a family friend).

Generally no, unless it involves arrears. However, it can be done through deception.

Closest incident that I can think of is a cousin I had who divorced an abusive husband and they had a child together. There was a permanent order of protection in place that he could never see the child or the mother. He continued to pay child support for the child until she reached 18 as his wages were garnished by Attorney General office. No other man ever adopted the child and if that had happen, he would have not been required to continue to pay. The continued child support was ordered by the judge and my cousin didn't even realize until over year later when they track her down to give her the money thus far. She was just happy to be safe with her child

There was a man who used to post here whose baby was adopted out by the mother without him giving consent. The way I understood it, he spent a fortune fighting the adoption and finally a court ruled that the adoption could not be finalized. However, because the adoptive parents fought it so long, the judge let the people who wanted to adopt keep custody of the child. They were the only parents he knew. The biological father had to pay them child support and was to get visitation.

No, in order for a legal adoption to take place, both biological mother's and father's rights *must* be terminated. At the termination of the father's rights, his obligation to financially support his child ends as well.

This would not happen because in order to adopt a baby, BOTH parents have to relinquish their rights and legally they would not be responsible for child support.
