3 Books overdue? Big fine!?

My brother rented 3 books from the library. We have been quite busy so we had forgotten about them and we just went back to library today and when he scanned his card at the express checkout (he was getting another book) it showed that he owed 84.93!! And it wouldn't let him get the book because of the fines.. Is it really that high?? The books are Kids books I'm sure altogether they'd only be maybe 30-40.. We don't really have that kind of money. Would he maybe allowed to work it off? He is 12 btw.. And maybe would I be allowed to help also to cut The price quicker? Idk.. Thank you.. :/

I don't think that 85 bucks could be right. I'm pretty sure that most libraries, at least in WV, only charge you 5 bucks per book, then send you a threatening letter.
You can't work it off, but don't just ditch the library, like someone else suggested. That's just plain wrong.
The books are their property, and when you got the card, you (or your brother as the case may be), made an agreement that you'd return the books on time, or pay the fee they charged. The library doesn't charge anything for renting books (aside from when you buy the card of course), so they need the fees from overdue books, to keep from going belly up.

You can pay it off gradually, as you get enough money.

What I think I would do, is pay the fee for your brother when you get the money, and then make HIM pay you back, or work it off for you. Make him do your chores or something.

maximum libraries have a optimal decrease as to how plenty they fee for previous due expenses. likelihood is they indexed the e book as lacking after a 365 days of it no longer being back. The library people won't discover you and that they are able to't make you pay an excellent. additionally, maximum libraries have systems that make consumers renew their account each 5-10 years. while switching to the recent equipment, each and all the clients ought to activate interior the recent equipment; everybody else gets deleted from that equipment with the aid of the top of the 1st 365 days with this equipment.

You guys are screwed. No, he can't work it off.
You'll have to just ditch the library. Never go there again, or with that card. After returning the books of course

What country are you in?
If you are in the UK you don't have to pay overdue fees if you are under 16!
