How does processor affect gaming?

Let's assume we have 2 top of the line gaming rigs with insane gpu's, I mean exactly the same specs except one has a amd phenom x3 2.1ghz and the other a phenom 2 x4 3.2ghz

Is there a significant difference in performance?

Also gove me the same scenario except ddr2 ram vs. Ddr3.

no it doesnt even matter as long as cpu can supply the graphics card with enough information for instance you should never get i5-2500k quad core with a crappy card like gt220

On both case... the differences will be minor. Your frame rate should still never drop bellow acceptable levels in ether case... and shouldn't be more than 5-10 fps difference.

games just don't really tax cpu or ram any more. So long as you have enough ram and a stout video card you are good.
