How many cores does my cpu need? ?
I've got gaming in mind. I know that a 3.4ghz x2 beats a 2.1 x4. So why is that and what should I get? (I want an amd)

If your gaming you will want at least 4 cores, and those 4 cores at about 3GHz+. You could also go with a 6 core setup with a similar clock rate. Or if your loaded go with the 8 core 990x intel makes! But really for gaming performance with AMD the bets they supply is the AMD Phenom II x6 1100t @3.3GHz.

Addition - Also in reply to 'why is that' it's because each core is pretty much another processor so the more the better and in many peoples opinion it is more significant than clock rate most of the time.

A duo core can handle any game to date, I see people still putting them in computers, a duo core 3.4GHz should be fine... or more.
