If I were a Cub fan, I would have wanted him indicted. The Cub fans have loyally supported their team since 1908 in frustration. Even a blind squirrel (shameless plug of Scooter in his absence) finds an acorn once in a while. Will a new GM help the Cubs?

A new GM is a start, but the Cubs need an organizational overhaul. Their ability to identify talent is among the worst in MLB, and any fix the Cubs make needs to include their scouting and farm systems. Bring in all the free agents you want, it's going to make the same miserable Cubs team. Hopefully their new GM will understand that and understand the patience of the Cubs fanbase. Build from the farm system on up, then spend some of that cash on free agents to shore up your young nucleas of talent.
It's a business model that worked for the Phillies, Yankees, Red Sox, Rays, Rangers and Giants.
The fact that fans will come whether the Cubs win or lose being a negative thing is ridiculous. The Cubs have one of the highest payrolls in baseball. If they truly were making no effort to win, why on earth would they spend so much money. Fans of other teams insisting that Cubs fans should not support their team through bad seasons is the very definition of being bandwagon fans. Other teams can only dream of the support the Cubs fans give them. When (if) the Cubs do turn things around, the Cubs will own Chicago like no other team has.
This gives us some hope. It gives us hope that Quade will be next. It gives us hope that Tom Ricketts is only 1/2 as stupid as he comes off.
This should have been done a while ago, but I'm happy. I honestly thought Quade and Hendry would keep their jobs for next year based on the Cubs playing somewhat decent the last 3 weeks. But why stop now? This is just the beginning. Quade needs to go next along with Crain "the brain" Kenney. Kenney is a dope and has no business running a baseball team. The organization needs to be cleaned out, top to bottom.
Maybe we'll get a GM that believes in OBP. Hendry has screwed the Cubs up for a long time. He's turned us into the most embarrassing team in MLB.
Well, this was something that was long overdue, and there is really no reason to believe that things won't improve.
I know last year when the Mets fired Minaya, I was elated, and I can think that Cubs fans feel great about this, now let the new GM clean out the rest of the house and bring in some people who know how to win.
Maybe we could have a Mets vs. Cubs NLCS in 2015, that would be great for baseball.
A new GM can't do any worse than Jim Hendry. The Cubs have a lot of money and he just gave it away to so many players with stupid contracts. They now have a little more hope.
