Which driver do you think, with better equipment, would regularly be a Chase contender?

Honestly, I think if Martin Truex Jr. had slightly better equipment, he'd be a force to reckon with. Discuss.

I think Truex is a good driver. I also thought he would have had good stuff from MWR. In a way I think he does, but somethings just not working right. He's fun to watch when he can make his car "go", and he looks pretty comfortable running up front. He did run better when he was with DEI, before DEI went down the toilet, and had to merge. Truex got screwed over in that deal, and I thought that was pretty unfair. Of course Junior went to Hendrick. I even have a T-shirt of the #1 car, when Martin Truex Jr. was driving it. I do like MWR and David Reutimann in the 00 and Truex, in the 56 NAPA car. I even like NAPA. As far as the Toyota thing goes "oh well..." They're not even Toyota's anyway, but it's only obvious that all the owners who switched to Toyota had ulterior motives, which to me is like being unstable. But once again, I can't hold that against a driver, because from a business aspect, he still has to work for someone, no matter what kind of equipment they have. I think MWR has pretty good equipment. I just think that the competition level is too high for their drivers unless they have the technicians to create a better platform for the drivers. That includes building the car, the crewcheif, and crew, and everyone and the procedures used to coordinate the set-up and operation of the events of the race. I would focus on the race car itself. That is also out of the hands of the driver. The driver is not responsible for the production of the race car, or how it is presented to him. As far as other drivers, we're going to see what Kasey Kahne can do when he drives for Hendrick Motorsports next year. If you think about the racing organizations that are already stable, in their operation, I don't think there will be much room for advancements to any of the people who may fit the answer to your question. If RFR and JGR and Penske Racing get any better, they're just going to keep squeezing people down and out of the top 10

I am not so sure that MWR has lesser quality equipment or that it's due more to the fact of how new the race team is. Years of notes from races are priceless compared to equipment. Same as Red Bull Racing...this is why top organizations have 3-4 teams. More info, more knowledge, more wins!

I think you could say that for anyone down to about the high 20's or even early 30's in the championship. There's only going to be 15 or so top quality cars in any given year, and it's just a matter of who is in them at the time.

David Reutimann I believe would be a chase contender with better stuff. It seems like every time he is doing good something lets lose. Just my thought on it.
