Horse headcollar sizings?

Long story short I've just recently bought my first horse and within the next few days I'm intending to go buy some extra gear for him/stuff he needs, and something he really needs is a new headcollar.

Anyway, I know of the different sizes but was wondering if each one had actual measurements for it? Full, cob, pony etc, basically the actual sizes in centimetes (or inches) of parts of it so I could get an idea.

I think he's a cob size but I don't actually know for sure and whilst my plan was to just measure his current headcollar then measure the new ones I look at to find out what size his head is actually knowing what size he is now would be great. I've had a look around but I can't seem to find anything with definite measurements and it's getting frustrating.

Anyway, thanks in advance if you know!

If you know what size bridle he has, that's the size headcollar you need.

Or if you don't know, take the current headcollar with you to the tack shop and measure it up against the other headcollars there - if they ask if you want help, just say you're trying to estimate headcollar size for your horse and they may ask you to describe him and help you find the correct headcollar.

What breed is he? I got a Cob size for my Paso Fino and it fits her wonderfully (only issue is the throat latch is almost to tight, can't take it up more than the second hole). What size halter does he have? Some websites tell you how to measure for headstalls by measuring their cheeks (pretty sure). Really if worse comes to worse with a bigger size you can either punch holes or a smaller size you can exchange it for a bigger size.

We have noticed that the standard sizes from the manufacturers are constructed for horses whose heads are a different shape than what we have. At one time we took to making our own, and still have a few of them in use.

Our current technique is to buy extras of the kinds that fit, and to buy other new ones randomly to find out if maybe they will be useful. "The one who dies with the biggest collection of ill-fitting tack wins!" Our heirs will be hard pressed to dispose of it all.

Like human shoes, it depends on the style. Best thing would be to take his old head collar with you and measure it up against a new one. Simple.
