Personal Jurisdiction Is a judgment valid if ??

My wife and I were taken to small claimes court by the snow plow guy .. he did not do his job and we had to have someone else do it and refused to pay him for work he did not do and had already paid someone else.
He filed suit in City small claims court.
My wife went to the court (she was the only defendent listed) and the judge found she hadn't enough physical proof that he did not do his job.
The man who acualy did the work pass away the week of the hearing.
any way.....
we dont live in the City
we live in the town out side the city limit.
(Saratoga springs, ny / town of saratoga)
Does the City court have Personal Jurisdiction over residents outside the city limit?
Or should the case have been filed in the town court?
and can the judgment overturned based on this ?

We were sued in CITY Court not County.

there is the County of saratoga,Town of saratoga and the CITY of saratoga Springs.

We traded plowing for a computer.
The man who did the plowing died the same week as the hearing and felt she had enough to deal with. several neibors also whould have spoken up but she went without it.
the town knows us and kenny the guy who plowed. the city doesn't.
The county is another court all together.

1. Why didn't your wife bring proof (canceled checks) that she paid someone else?
2. You were sued in county court. It doesn't matter what city you live in as long as it is in the same county.
