Why is my Dell Inspiron e1705 is taking forever to boot up?

I am running windows xp black edition, and it takes forever to boot up. I am wondering if a new hard drive is in order. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks...

Note: Do not do this if you are not comfortable with this troubleshooting!

> Go to run type" msconfig" then press ENTER
>> A box will pop up named System Configuration.
>>> Choose the "startup" tab and check the box of the application that you do not want to run during startup.
>>>> Now click apply then OK. Sytem will ask you to restart, just click restart. Try to observe if it lessens the time of your system starting up.

Again, Don't do this if you are not comfortable. If you still want to give it a go, create a restore point first so if you accidentally made some mistake you can revert back to an earlier point of time before the changes.

Try these steps too, this may increase speed performance.
1. Try to scan the system too for antivirus.
2. Use http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/ to cleanup unnecessary files.
3. Go to run type temp and press Enter. Shift delete all the files there that can be deleted.
4. Go to run type %temp% and press Enter. Shift delete all the files there that can be deleted.
5. Go to run type prefetch and press Enter. Shift delete all the files there that can be deleted.
5. Perform a Disk cleanup of your primary hard drive (right click on your primary drive and click on properties, click disk cleanup)
Hope this helps..
