I have a 2001 gmc jimmy and i have a brand new battery and starter put it but it still wont turn over?

when i turn the key the lights and everything come on but it does nothing else but one click noise when i turn the key and i dont know what else could it be and changed spark plugs and wires to. any help
and it wont crank over or attempt to start

before we put new starter in and all we had to do was tap on it and it would start and when we put new one in then it wouldnt start at all when we tap on it

If that clicking noise is coming from the starter, then check your ground cable to the engine, battery terminals & positive cable to the starter.

You can test for a bad ground connection easily by attaching one end of a jumper cable to the negative battery terminal & the other end to a good bare metal spot on the engine, then see if it starts.

Also check the small wire in the starter for power when you try to crank it. If there is no power in that wire while the key is fully turned to start, then you might have a bad ignition switch, fuse, relay or a problem with the security system.

I prefer to try the least expensive fixes first.

Clean your battery terminals inside and out using a battery brush available at auto parts stores everywhere.

Tighten terminals until they can't be moved by hand and your car should start.

If it still won’t start, you may need to recharge your battery, solenoid, or starter.
