CPU cache size compatability?

I have an XW 8000 running two 604 socket xeons at 533 FSB.

At present I have 2 x 2.8GHZ / 512KB L2 Cache

Can I upgrade to 2 x 3.2GHZ / 2MB L2 Cache

The issue here is the cache size, I know I can used the upgrade witha 1MB cahe, it says on the HP site, but can I use it with the 2 MB cache?

Will it make that much difference any way.

I use my PC for web development / typing / surfing / writing large pdfs . . . .

it isn't the cache size that matters concerning the compatibility but the cpu type itself if it is supported by the mobo.

on the other hand you will not notice a big improvement from the new cpu's because your used applications will hardly take a profit from the increased cache.

Looking at the HP-Quickspecs for your computer it seems that the important part is Front side Bus frequency is restrictted fo 533MHz

But they do show a1MB cache option on a 3.2GHz CPU

You should check if the new CPU is compatible with your motherboard. It would make a slight difference if you managed to upgrade.
