Can you say Actor for someone that acts in general including female?

i know you say actress for female but because male is the default strongest sex and they do say it's a man's world can you also relate the term actor for someone that acts in general which therefore can be aimed at females

Since "political correctness" has taken over, it's deemed incorrect (or even sexist to some) to refer to a female as an "actress". Male and females both are now referred to as "Actors".
