Can I stop my dog getting ear wax?

I have an 18 month old Dogue de Bordeaux.
The problem is she gets real nasty ear wax. A few months ago she had an ear infection and the vet gave her a course of antibiotics and told us to clean the ears out with a drop of olive oil. This cleared the redness and swelling nicely but ever since she gets thick, dark brown wax. The Mrs can clean the ears one night but 2 days later they are full again.
I know dogs with floppy ears are prone to wax but isn't this a little extreme?

No, it's not extreme for a dog with floppy ears once they've had an infection. They often tend to get infections after that.

The first thing I would do is to change the dog's food to grain free, even poultry free. Try Natural Balance fish and sweet potato.

Next, make sure you use baby wipes (unscented) to clean out the dog's ears. Just wrap one around your finger and get in there to clean. We have a golden and this is what we have to do, 3 times a week.

Next, there's a solution you can make up to help you clean the dog's ears. It is:

4 tbsp of boric acid powder
16 drops Gentian violet 1%
1 bottle rubbing Alchol

Mix well together in plastic bottle. Ensure that the boric acid is completely mixed in and there's no sediment on the bottom. Shake before use. Wet a cotton ball (not completely) and use the cotton ball to clean out the dog's ears. You can alternate this method with the baby wipes method of cleaning.

it is extreme! my mutt has the same problem with dark, thick ear wax and has been treated for 2 ear infections. he has floppy ears and it does hold more moisture in the ear canal, but should not be so waxy. my dog has other allergy type symptoms and vomiting that has been going on 2 yrs and the dog is only 3 years old in a few weeks. he's been to 4 vets and still no real answers. let me know if you figure your dogs ears out!

You should talk to the people at your local AKC Dogue de Bordeaux group. The knowledge of folks that have owned many of these dogs is invaluable. There might be a national group online that has some contact person who will give you information too.
Some dogs need their ears cleaned every day.

Lol, My dogs have ear wax but not alot, sometimes they don't even have any..
This is how there ears stay cleand:
My other dog licks it :p Yeah I know it sounds gross but it is true.
So if you have another dog, put the other one up to it and let it lick its ear ! Ahahahah :D

Well just to prove my point, Have you ever had a dog lick your ears?? If yes then you know what im talking about. There licking your ear wax :/ haha well I hope I helped, but if you don't have another dog just take it to the vet and let them clean it :D But its fine if they have ear wax lol

Normal. Sorry some dogs do produce an insane amount of ear wax.
