Why do some people not realize "I don't know" is an answer?

Disproving something that is accepted to explain something would leave us with "We don't know and need more information to form an accurate picture of what does actually happen"

It doesn't automatically given ANY credibility to any other "competing" idea.

What causes people to think otherwise?

because saying "I don't know" to the God debate is saying the obvious. We are trying to find out the answer.

Probably for the same reason they think answering a question with a question is NOT a dodge based on ignorance.

People don't ask questions to get a response that is "IDK". If you don't know the answer, then why did you answer the question? Just for the 2 points?

there's a very good reason for that, but I'm not going to tell you.
