Is an Ipad worth $500.00?

I am looking at buying me and my wife either an Ipad or an e-reader for Christmas to use. I am leaning towards the Ipad because I saw the how big the Ipad is (11.5 in by 9 in) and then how small an ereader is (biggest i saw was 6.5 in by 5 in). The Ipad2 also has a camera. The Ipad2 is $499.00 (with tax it is $533.93. I already figured it in). The only thing we are going to use it for is just to check email, facebook, espn, etc.... My question is, is the Ipad really worth that much? Or would you recommend getting a higher end E-reader.

I don't think so. An Ipad is WORTH no more then 200-300, but beecause its an Apple priduct they can mark it up as much as they like.

IF she is just going to use it for email and light web browsing, consider getting a 200-300 netbook. Screen size is slightly smaller, and there is no touch display, but can YOU justify spending almost $300 more just for your device to be a touch screen and say "ipad"?

I would recommend any one of the android tablets, they have much better cameras, the only thing the iPad has going for it is the number of apps available through the market, and if you don't plan on buying or using those its just a waste of money. There are a few newer eReaders which do run the internet and have larger displays, but these run on android also.

I think the IPAD is really worth that much if you are going to use all the functions and apps etc. If you want for a reader it is very big but are you just going to read at home? Its kind of big to carry around. Dont you have a laptop to do that surfing you are going to do do? The IPAD is used for way more than that and that is why it is so expensive. You really should go and try one out to see if it is what you want. If you want a reader. I always get Sony's and just got the new one. http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921666384227&XID=O:sony%20reader%20wifi:dg_read_gglsrch:e&k_id=1ba62d8d-c48f-0d08-72cb-00005c38ff9c

see the lower video for an great review: http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152151

But just go check all of them out, check out their function, check reviews and get the one that has what you need it for and is a good quality product.

All these overpriced tablets, such as iPad, acer, samsung tablets. They are all gimmicks. If you just need a media player which can do most of what iPad can do, just save some cash and buy a iTouch. All they're doing with tablets are just scaling the screen then adding £100+ to the price.

It depends, 1st generations used, or new, are not, and even a new second generation isn't worth that much, you could find them for cheaper...(well, you can get 1st and second for more than 500, but like i said, keep looking, online has the best deals...)
