What would make a good name for a soldier that operates from a starship?

The word "Marine" is commonly used in sci-fi but is inherently misleading because Marine is shortened from "mariner" and a direct reference to water and seafaring navy. Also, "Space Marine" is trademarked by the company that owns Warhammer 40k.

Besides "Star Marine", any suggestions?

"Star Marine" sounds like a cheap knockoff of "Space Marine". If these guys have been around for a while, I'd consider what their role might have been originally, or think of some distinctive piece of equipment or tactic that they might have used, and name them after that, or a mangling of it. The modern military loves their acronyms, so see if you can make one of those into a name.

How about... D-Man (D for drop, as in dropped from orbit) or DT (drop troop). Or "omtie", from OMT - one-man tank?
