Why bother to give thoughtful, respectful, well supported answers when Askers select nonsense as Best Answer?

People get rewarded points when their answer seems pointless, trite, silly or just plain ****. I realize that some questions are not really serious, and a joking answer may be what the Asker is looking for. I enjoy a little fun sometimes, too.
But when a question seems serious, and I put some thought, time and effort into an answer, only to return to a resolved question with some brief, nonsensical answer selected as "Best" it's discouraging. I'd at least like to see some other thoughtful, well-supported answer rewarded, even if it's contrary to mine.
Is this a game, or a trusted source of shared information?
I'm afraid Yahoo Answers is going to lose credibility if the foolishness persists.

it is frustrating, especially if you know that you gave the correct information, with sources, but someone else's answer is chosen because it is in line with the asker's personal opinions

here is how I cope with that, I just consider the other people who are reading the answers and learning the facts from my answer, even if my answer isn't chosen

someone is learning something from me, no matter what

Yahoo Answers never HAD credibility. Check the bottom of the page - that "Disclaimer" is there for a reason.
"Yahoo! does not evaluate or guarantee the accuracy of any Yahoo! Answers content."

But the fact is, you have to consider why YOU are on the site. If you are here to HELP folks, then whether or not you get chosen as Best Answer doesn't matter. What matters is that you gave a good answer. If you can't find your own satisfaction from what you do - but must rely on somebody ELSE choosing you as Best - you may need to reevaluate your purpose here.
