Children of Illegal Immigrants Sue Florida Over State’s College Tuition Policy?

Question

Should the children of illegal immigrants get instate tuition and sue when they don't get what they think is rightfully theirs?  
(Let me preface this by saying that I am a retired teacher - high school and college) who taught for many years in other countries.  I leased a car in some of these places and paid for the lease and the insurance that went along with the car.  I followed every rule of every country.  I had a work visa and when it was up, I was taken to the airport and left the country.)

Why should they get to break every rule and get to stay in our country?  One video I saw recently of an illegal immigrant driving a big fancy car bringing her kids to school told one reporter.  "No, I don't have insurance on this car because I can't afford it.  If I get in a car accident, I will take my kids and go back to Mexico and abandon everything."  So what if she kills someone in this accident or just maims them or destroys their car or their property?  Why should they not be held accountable? 

Many of my students in other countries wanted to come to the US to study because they said they could get their education and "find someone to sue and make a ton of money to take back with them."  These were the very words of the ones in Kuwait.

Normally, I would agree with you 100%. But not in this case. The woman in the article was born in the US and lived her entire life in Florida. She is a US citizen and a resident of Florida. And she is being punished for no other reason than her parents being illegal immigrants.

If she, herself, was an illegal immigrant, then yes, she should have to pay out of state tuition (she actually should be sent back to her home country, but you know the likelihood of that with this administration). But since she was born in the US, the US Constitution even says she is a citizen ("All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside." - 14th Amendment).

Legally, if they were born in the United States they are citizens of the United States. If an illegal immigrant gives birth in the United States she is subject to losing that child upon deportation but the child grows up in this country with all rights of every citizen. I agree that if a person comes to this country, he should abide by the laws here just as we would be obliged to abide by the laws of any country we visited.

As a Floridian, I say they should not even be allowed attend college here at all, but if they do, they should be charged out of state tuition. They are Not residents of this state...or even this country.
