coastal areas are areas from north east china down to guangdong province, coastal areas have more advance economy than the inland areas

shanghai is also in coastal area traditionally we can say shanghai was part of jiangsu province, they speak wu dialect of jiangsu

Since Hong Kong is an island, I certainly would call that coastal. Do you have a computer? There is a great, simple, website called Google Maps. I you go there you can type in China and see all the areas that bump up against the ocean. Those would be coastal since they are on the coast.
