My MacBookPro doesn't recognize DVD's os CD's?

My MacBookPro doesn't recognize DVD's os CD's. What could be the matter? Can anybody help me, please? Every time I insert a disc, there's a message saying the disc is empty, when it's not!

Thanks for the answers, I'll try to add some details.
The DVDs and CDs, are homemade in the same machine that doesn't recognize it now. They have been played before in the same computer that made them, and all of a sudden the computer says they are empty! They have songs, images and videos recorded on them. Even the icon on the desktop wont show! Do you have any clue?
Well, the comercial ones are still running OK, no problem with them.

There is nothing wrong with your Mac's Optical drives, I swear!

Please tell us EXACTLY what is on these unrecognized disks, and, if they are actually Windows-only video Games, or something similar, like AutoPlay video DVDs made with Windows-only file formats, like ".wmv", or Audio files (like ".wma"), that OS X does not recognize.

OS X can NOT run stuff like this without you having to convert the files to a format that OS X does support.

TIP: Try installing the free VLC Media Player for Mac. It plays virtually everything without the need for tons of extra Codecs.

Assuming that these are commercial disks rather than homemade, open a support case at http://www.apple.com/support/

If they are homemade, then there drives may not be aligned properly or an incompatible format was selected.
