I have an Amana oven and the door is locked but open?
I have an Amana electric oven and range. It says "the big Oven" on the front panel. Its a flat, glass stove top. Someone tried to clean it using the automatic cleaning. They opened the front oven door before it started. The door locked while the door was open. In other words, the MECHANICAL slide that holds the door locked moved to lock the door while the door was open. Now the door won't close properly and the light is on. How can I unlock it?

If you can reach it's electrical plug, unplug it for about 10 minutes and replug. If its hard wired, go to your fuse box and cut off it's power for 10 minutes. That should unlock it. If that doesn't work, call Amana CS and ask, they probably have a series of buttons to push which will reset the digital board.
Turn off the breaker to the stove for several minutes this should cause it to reset. If it doesn't you may be able to manually push the lock back into it's normal unlocked position while the oven is off. The lock is probably operated by a solenoid which is located under the cook top. I have not worked on one of these stoves so i'm taking a guess. Look for amana oven lock on the internet and it may locate it. Be sure to get bids on parts and labor if turnimg off the breaker doesn't work. I have always thought of electronic oven locks on ovens as overkill . A manual lever would be a good thing on all ovens to protect small children. But that won't happen because it makes common sense.
