What is the programme nero.bat? is it a virus?
every time my laptop boots, a window 'nero.bat' loads and runs thru a series of 'system32' files, all of whom access is denied. What is it, what does it do and how do i get rid of it?

A .bat file is a windows batch file which runs a series of commands in the command line.
IF IT'S HARMLESS
It could be a program that is running incorrectly with the wrong privileges
I have my doubts that this is the case
IF IT'S A VIRUS
The way to defuse it is to go into the control panel and find the start-up programs folder and remove it from the start-up scripts. In the folder it will also tell you the location of the program itself so you can also find it and remove it.
I think this is a more likely option
It could be a program that did not turn up in my searches or a very poorly coded bit of malicious software that did not take into account privileges and has become noticeable. Just take the above steps to hunt it down yourself or use a malware scanner

Yes it is.
It is an executable with lines of commands that alters the system in a way it can read bank-accounting data. Its Spyware. On this site it says what it does and alters. Next to trying to undo these steps you should run a scan with probably MBAM and Superantispyware, both free for manual scan and change your passwords. http://www.prevx.com/filenames/1338639406019828936-X1/NERO.BAT.html Next time you can find things about programs on the Internet or get files and URL' scanned on: http://www.virustotal.com Good luck and I hope you still have a system restore point or backup like a clone from the disk. Viruses spread in groups and download others for those that show irresponsible behavior. I am having this program that lets the user confirm any change on system internals. This way I know what is going on even when infected. It is called Counterspy Version 2. The newer versions do not let you trust actions, like that the question for confirmation does not show up anymore. Some other free programs check system internals also like Spybot with that option on. In Counterspy V2 its setting is called "Paranoid." Alfred

In the past, Nero was just software for burning CDs and DVDs, but over time, Nero has evolved into a complete multimedia suite that's both stable and high quality, suitable for both an amateur and semi-professional user.
