When do hyacinths bloom?

I keep searching, but I cannot find anywhere where it tells me when they bloom! I would love to use them in my wedding in May, but I don't know if they bloom in may...

According to classical mythology, it is when that young "companion" of the old Greek god Apollo had shed his blood upon the ground in death that the first hyacinth had bloom'd. If we may believe Ovid, it was the tears of Apollo that stained the newly formed flower's petals with ai, ai, the sign of his grief. Since the days this myth was told the flower has been associated with rebirth and spring. More specifically, this flower in fact blooms in early spring.

According to Wikipedia, anyways.

It doesn't give any specific time frames but May sounds like it's definitely doable to me! Your florists should be able to keep them.

Hyacinth Season

Blooming time will vary with your region. Those that remain cold well into spring will have the later blooms. So bloom time will be from February to late April.....depending. If you want them for a May wedding, contact a florist. See if they will be able to procure some for that late date. Most growers are no longer producing them that late into the season. A florist might have alternatives if you are looking for very fragrant plants for your bridal bouquet.

Hello Snugglelb,

My name is Gardengail and I work for the home depot in the garden center. Hyacinths bloom in early spring; May might be too late to find them unless you contact a grower personally to grow them for you. To a point you can refrigerate them to bloom at certain times, however I think may will be way too late for them.

Hope this helps,
Gardengail

Here in Michigan, they bloom, usually in April but you should be able to order them thru a florist.
