If a person works as a receptionist at a school, can he or she collect unemployment in the summer months when the school is closed and there is no work?
I am a part time hourly employee. I work 35 hours a week. I work in the office and I don't have a contract.

Read your contract - If you are under the same salary guidelines as teachers then you are being paid for 12 months of work during the school year (usually 9 months), so do not qualify for unemployment. However, if you are not a contract employee, then you do qualify.

i'm a Head start up instructor in Ga. in many circumstances I get carry of unemployment for the period of the summer season. This 3 hundred and sixty 5 days could be diverse, via a clean regulation. nevertheless waiting to work out. No you can't collect unemployment in the summer. Most school employees have their salary spread out over 12 months, but even if you choose to receive your annual salary only in the months you work, the amount you receive is for the entire year. Therefore, you are being paid for the summer months even if you don't get a check then.

it varies by school system and by state.....some pay based on 12 months others just pay while school is in session, and those employees do draw unemployment while school is out.
