I just got a 10 gallon fish tank, and I was looking into getting a Red Tailed Black Shark and was wondering what some good ideas as tank mates would be?
they only get to 5'' ... a 10 gallon should be fine i would think

If you really want a RTS you need at least 40 gallons! I have one wish I could put him a 50G but he is a baby and will be fine in the 40...
BUT if you upgrade your tank you can put him with any semi-aggressive fish, such as barbs (Tiger Barbs are aggressive, thats what I have mine with)
I suggests joining a fish community forum such as: http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/aquariumforum/index.php they have a lot of good profiles on fish as well as an active forum community. Sorry, but your tank is way too small for a Red-tailed black shark. They need at least 35 gallons. They are even more territorial as they get older. Our gets along just fine with Plecos and neon tetras. But they will feel too closed in if you put him in such a small tank and this will make them even more territorial and aggressive. Please do some research if you don't believe me, such as fish forums, and other people will tell you the same thing.

Well you would think... but you'd be wrong. If you type red tailed black shark care in google it takes about 10 seconds to realize that tank is too small.

I have angelfish with my red tailed shark, and they never bother each other. Of course, i have him in a 20 gallon too, so he has more territory to himself. You can, but i really wouldn't suggest red tails for a 10 gallon :/ Note, that a 10 gallon is only 21 inches in length. Red tails can get up to 6 inches. Also, most 10 gallons suggest that you use them for coldwater fish. But hey, i can't stop you. If you really want one, go for it! I love them! Just make sure you have atleast one hiding place for him. Good luck with your fish!
