Is it time to see a chiropractor?

I have had neck pain for years and years (over 10). I'm sick of it. Will a chiropractor help? How do I know if a chiropractor is any good and not a wacko? (I saw one once and he seemed so fake - "acting" - that I was way turned off. Are they all so showy?).

I’m sorry to hear that you have been having pain for so long. As far as getting relief, chiropractic is a low cost approach to dealing with pain such as the kind you are experiencing. Be advised that chiropractic does not utilize drugs or surgery in the treatment of these types of conditions. If you prefer the medical route it may be better to go Osteopathic doctor, as the oldgoat suggests.

Referral is a great way to determine if a chiropractor is legitimate. When I hurt my neck in high school, I started going to the chiropractor my mom was going to. After a few weeks, my headaches were gone and my neck stopped hurting. I would recommend finding a friend or family member who has gotten good results from going to a chiropractor, and start there. When you go into the chiropractor’s office, utilize these strategies:

1) Ask the chiropractor: “How long will I have to come before I start seeing results?”
- The answers may vary, but any estimates around 4-6 weeks are reasonable.

2) When telling them about your pain, see how long they listen to you before they interrupt.
- Listening is a reflection of where the doctor’s motivations are; usually, the longer they listen the more focused they are on you.

3) Listen to any recommendations they make for your lifestyle, in terms of exercise and nutrition.
- This type of advice is helpful and shows that the chiropractor wants to have you recover.

4) Don’t become discouraged.
- Every person has their own needs; try not to become discouraged if a chiropractor does not work for you. Finding a DC who can help you reach your goals and successes is worth the effort.

I hope this helps. Take care.

Been going to 1 considering the fact that 1978. They have helped me plenty. There are well ones and dangerous ones, similar to in any scientific professor. There used to be a co-employee who were to her health practitioner for again disorders, he did not support so she went to a Chiropractor. He checked her out and instructed her to return to her health practitioner and feature a targeted experiment performed. The effect used to be undiagnosed kidney disorders, one kidney used to be long gone, the opposite used to be handiest performing at a extensively identified fee. So a chiropractor will observe disorders, After all they've had the equal scientific coaching that a scientific health practitioner has. The handiest change is they concentrate on Chiropractic coaching in which a scientific health practitioner is going into an extra forte, like center, gastrointestinal, and many others.

Many are whacky and put on a great show. Many are in to semi science. Many should have been used car salesmen. There are several different schools of chiropractic and some believe you can cure cancer with the right manipulation.Walks like a duck, quacks like a duck...
There are some that aren't bad but they usually have a real medical degree, specializing in what's become known as sports medicine. They often are D.O.'s (doc of osteopathy) rather than M.D.'s and sometime go by physiatrists. That's not misspelling of a shrink. They can crack you, prescribe medication, traction and physical therapies, do acupuncture, several types of massage, pain relieving injections, on and on. The only thing they really won't do is push you towards a surgeon, not without damn good reason.
I have yet to see one check my magnetic field to make sure my yin and yang were out of balance, Not on a first date, anyhow. Good luck

Chiropractors can be good. Talk to friend relatives and acquaintances, get a recommendation. Only someone who's gone to one can know if he or she is any good.
