Question about spraypainting plastic?

I recently bought a plastic globe for a project of mine and need to spray paint the thing Chrome, so my question is after priming should I just spray it the metallic finish or should I put a white undercoat on first?

1. Primer IS the undercoat. If a surface is not ready for a finish coat, it is not properly primed.
2. Depending on the TYPE of plastic, it may not be paintable. Chemicals in many paints will EAT many plastics.
3. This is why there is so much fine print on the can. It is there to answer questions like yours.

The best primer I have found for painting plastic is Zinsser Bullseye 1-2-3. It comes in white, so you would be able to prep the globe with just one product. You will probably want to do two or three really light coats to get it even and not have runs on a curved surface.

The primer does not need the white coat. Just put the final color on top of the primer.
