Those who have political connections and have high profile support would not have to spend nearly as much money or personal money to receive the type of attention they would need to be elected. It is really a question of who do you need to know to be elected. High Profile CEO's and state legislators endorsements and usually what put you in the arena.

If you went into this without any high profile backing you would need at least 2 million to be taken seriously and get your name out there, and pray to god your message resonates with the people.
